I am a Norwegian choreographer and dancer. I have created my own performances since 2011,
as well as works for Cullberg, the Royal Swedish Ballet School, KHiO and Norrdans. I am
currently working on three projects: Perfect Lover, a collaboration with choreographer
Marcus Baldemar, dealing with the platonic love between two gay men, seen through the
filter of the postmodern dance techniques they are both trained in. Meningen med livet,
an interactive caravan park that I made in collaboration with Tove Berglund, and
Attempting Alchemy for Swedish dance company Skånes Dansteater, as well as touring my latest
piece Spiti - The House of Us.
I have an ongoing collaboration with the film director Joanna Nordahl. Together we have
made MM, HYPERFRUIT and The Viral Dance, pieces that have toured with Dansnät Sweden,
Dansenett Norge and the National Traveling Theater Norway.
My goal is to create dance that challenges masculinity norms and highlights radical
softness as an alternative. Where society rewards hardness, I find strength in softness
by allowing for emotions in the studio, trusting and supporting others and letting the
process color the product. Softness as a working method and artistic expression stands
in contrast to today's neoliberal notions of individualism and autonomy.
By staging universes with their own rules, logic and interpersonal relationships,
my performances represent alternatives to the world outside the theatre. With "what if"
as a starting point (what if ballet looked like disco dancing (Dance To Dance To),
what if folk dance was created today (Vi kan göra va du vill)), and through drastic,
rapid dramaturgical shifts, "queering" the time. This challenges the viewer's perception
and understanding of the future development of the piece. The aim is for them to
surrender to the feeling of "here and now".
My performances have been presented in 14 countries on stages such as Oslo Opera House (NO)
Sophiensaele (DE), The Place (UK), Vooruit (BE), Gessnerallee (CH), Moderna Museet (SE),
Biennale de danse de Val du Marne (FR), MDT (SE), Brut (AT), GUIdance (PT),
Dansens Hus (SE) and Zodiak (FI).
