Perfect Lover is a choreographic collaboration between Marcus Baldemar and Ludvig Daae.
Through postmodern dance, and via Plato, bell hooks, homoeroticism and Britney Spears, the
work renegotiates the notion of platonic love, specifically between two gay men. They move
among terrycloth and Greek statues, between philosophical ideas and carnal desires.
The starting point is the dance artists’ own personal relationship—a relationship that,
over the course of 20 years, has unfolded across both private and professional, public
spheres. In Perfect Lover, the audience encounters two characters who, through absurdity,
care and humour, disrupt the binary divide between friendship and romance. There is sex
in the room, but not in the relationship.
Perfect Lover is a space for intimacy, filled with phallic and yonic symbols, with holes,
fluids and flesh.
Perfect Lover premiered at RAS, Sandnes, Norway September 3rd and 4th, 2026.
